I love this book, it has given me hours of entertainment. As with the other books in the Britannica series it pulls together multiple aspects of the British peoples relationship to these fascinating beings, from stories, to folk names, to art and literature. It draws from a big public outreach project which gathered all kinds of amazing cultural elements like names and stories from all over the country.
One of my personal favourite discoveries came when I lived in Shropshire and read that one of the churches in Shrewsbury had a depiction of a woodlouse in one of its stained glass windows. So I went on a pilgrimage to see it and had to get special permission to go in the side vestibule. It was a lovely way to connect with cheesy-bobs or doodly-bugs or gramfer-grigs or woozy-pugs.
