Join us in the Food Guild! This team is always vibrant, creative and full of song. We play a vital role at the heart of the village creating food to nourish everyone’s bodies and souls. If you like being part of a community by getting actively involved in practical tasks as part of a supportive and thriving team, then this could be perfect for you.
It is an opportunity to be actively engaged in supporting the village to flourish through daily shifts in the kitchen in exchange for being able to engage in all the other village activities when you are not on shift and also to be part of a welcoming, fun and caring team having an embodied experience of connective culture.
There is no financial cost for you to join the camp in this way, just a commitment to a 4.5hr shift each day.
Kitchen tasks you would probably be involved in are anything from chopping veg and preparing scrumptious meals (under the guidance of our Chef), topping up tea urns, washing up, clearing and setting tables and serving meals as well as the opportunity to get involved in foraging and offering food blessings. We really encourage everyone to bring their unique gifts and talents to the team so do let us know that you would love to contribute as well.
You don’t need lots of previous kitchen experience as the Chef and the team will guide you. The role does require a reasonable amount of physical fitness as you will be on your feet for most of the 4.5hr shift each day. It would be helpful to have a couple of strong bodies on board too for lifting the heavier stuff.
You will be held and supported by the Kitchen Culture North, Kerry Lane, and it really is a co-created experience where we learn and respond together to what the camp, the kitchen and we as a team need. We will create our own kitchen culture that will feed into and draw from the village. This year we are passionate about harnessing the inherent connection that comes from preparing, honouring and sharing food together and would love to weave this even more strongly into the wider camp.
So you will be part of a learning, connective, vibrant team. You will receive cultural mentoring from Kerry who is experienced in the 8 Shields model, as well as being able to engage with other experienced members of the wider village.
As a Food Guild member you will get:
-
- Cultural mentoring and support from the ‘Kitchen Culture North’ which we seek to tailor to your personal needs and interests.
-
- A supportive small team that you are part of
-

-
- Joining in with the relevant parts of the staff training in the first couple of days before camp begins and the staff debrief the day after it ends
